I never knew what the consequences would be.
I say that like it’s a defense, an excuse.
It’s not. It’s simply the truth.
I never knew what he would become to me.
Through everything, he’s become everything.
My rock, my air, my love.
My everything.
And then….
Things changed.
Because it was wrong.
Because sometimes, our sons must pay for the sins of their fathers.
Or their mothers.
I’m afraid that I’m lost,
that I’m damned.
After you read this, you’ll probably agree.
Really, it doesn’t matter.
All that matters is that I save him.
Because he shouldn’t pay for my sin.
Judge me if you like.
But keep reading.
This is our beginning.
This is where the darkness truly starts.

Initium Nocte Trilogy 25 edition by Courtney Cole Literature Fiction eBooks

The main character in this book is Olivia, Dare’s mom. So what we’re reading is a prequel, instead of a continuation of Dare and Calla’s story. And this story is a movement from sanity down into the abyss. Throw some mysticism in there and you have a completely different take on the entire story line. So NOW I have to go and re-read all the books with this new knowledge(?) and see if it helps to clear anything up. Beyond that, I cannot, nor will not give anything else away. It doesn’t give away the story…maybe? At least not up to this point? I know so many questions….

Ms. Cole still has me twisted in knots not knowing what is what. I know that this is by far one of the best series I’ve read this year. And I’m beyond anxious for next month when Lux comes out. So would I recommend this short? Yes I would. I would recommend this whole series. But for those who can’t do cliffhangers…DO NOT PEEP AT THESE BOOKS UNTIL AFTER YOU BUY LUX! That’s my word of warning.

Welp.
Basically everyone is certifiable.
Have been since the beginning of time.
With a side of gross.

While this was really short, I felt like I got more of an actual story with this addition. Though the introduction of the paranormal aspects, makes me not nearly as excited to start book 3 as I was after reading Nocte.
Courtney Cole has the unbelievable ability to draw you into her books make you eat, sleep and breathe the story and it's characters then take what you thought you knew and turn it upside down. Initium is no different. It takes you back to the beginning (Nocte) and gives you more of the story, and it will blow your mind. As a bonus there is a preview of Lux as well. This is a must read it makes the wait for Lux worthwhile.
I find myself finishing books in the Nocte Trilogy and my first statement every time is, “What the ever loving h*ll did I just read?!” I am seriously so confused and puzzled about my life. Does Dare have a twin? Is it a girl or a boy? Are Callie and Finn the result of Laura and Richard? Why, why is this happening, what is happening?! I have so many questions and I need answers, so many answers, and Courtney isn’t helping. Courtney just weaves a web so deep that I am tangled, trapped, lost…where is an exit? Can someone save me?
I'm torn with this book. I waited and waited and waited for it to finally come out and once it did I was disappointed. It was good but it could have been great. At the end it felt completely rushed and just left me sitting there wondering what had just happened. Now this series was a complete mind (you no what) from the beginning and that what drew me into it. It was so different from everything else that's out there right now. I still recommend this series to everyone! This final book just was missing something.
This is a quick, short read. And it seems like it will either help you connect the dots a bit better or confuse you even more.

For me, I'm definitely starting to see some clarity out of the fog that I traveled through in Verum. While this novella's topic was outside my historical and biblical knowledge, I can see a bit better into the 'whys' of what's been happening and have a gut instinct that we're in for a heck of a ride when LUX releases.

Still written beautiful by Courtney Cole as ever. And now, I need answers...please. K thanks bye
Wish I could get my money back, felt like I read 50 pages of nothing but the voice of Charlie Browns teacher, wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah.

Honestly I think my mind might be turning to mush I feel a bit like Finn. Probably could have nipped this one in the bud and left it completely out of the loop.

This is what happens when the author does not complete a full book and has nothing left for imagination, they tend to create even more characters that run on forever and the reader just gets more confused and totally frustrated. Blah! Decisions.. decisions.. shall I move on?
Just wow. I am thrilled to have this novella. As someone who doesn't necessarily figure things out easily when it comes to these kinds of stories, Initium has hopefully started me on the track to finally figuring out what this is truly all about.

We get a bit of history, 21 years prior to what is happening now to Calla, and it is exhilarating!! I had forgotten just how wild a ride the Nocte series has been and this pleasant surprise has me all geared up and ready for Lux. There's even a couple of chapters of the last book to whet everyone's appetite.

I strongly encourage you start at the beginning with Nocte and experience this journey for yourself. It is more than worth your time.
